Sandman Comes Home--Plus Two

In July 2001, Sandman, a Personal Pony in Michigan, was sent to Tennessee to serve as a friend and companion to Krista, who was terminally ill.  Read about our extraordinary "angel pony" on the Personal Ponies national website.

Sandman returns to Michigan...

Photo of SandmanIn March 2002, the volunteers in Michigan were told that Sandman's work in Tennessee was done.  The question was, should Sandman return to Michigan?  The answer, a resounding YES!

Sharon Roberts, Director of Transportation, was immediately contacted to see if she could assist in arranging transportation for Sandman.  In the few days that followed arrangements were made.  Mike and Linda Whitsel would pick Sandman up from his current home.  Dave and Dawn Spain, Missouri Volunteers, would take Sandman to their farm until transportation to Michigan could be arranged.  (The Whitsel's are Dave's parents.)

Soon after Sandman arrived at the Spain's, Dawn contacted Mary, our Michigan State Director, with good news.  A volunteer had been found to travel Sandman home.  There was one more thing; two ponies had become available and could be transported with Sandman if Michigan had placement for them.

After talking with Mary about the need for placement ponies in Michigan, both Dawn and Mary decided Wee Willy and Darcy would be perfect for children waiting for ponies in Michigan.

Sandman returned to Justa Little Farm where he serves as promotional pony and is again the favorite of all visiting children.  Wee Willy and Darcy are serving as loving friends to children with special needs.

It took the caring hearts and helping hands of ten Personal Ponies Volunteers to make it possible for these three ponies to serve dozens of children in Michigan.  This is not exceptional, it's what Personal Ponies Volunteers do every day!
