Tammy Teter
and Vickie Sheathelm met Tena Bastian at a seminar on breeding at the North
American Horse Spectacular
in Novi, Michigan, November 14, 15, and 16, 2003. Tena Bastian,
Author and
Horse Breeder, was celebrating the upcoming release of her second book
entitled "Breeding
Horses/The Goal is The Foal," published
by Trafalgar Square Publishing. Known to many for her work as a
Western Poet,
Tena and her husband own and stand their own stallion, This Beaus
Eligible, which placed in the top five at the PHBA World show in Tulsa,
Oklahoma. In her first
book, " The Horses We’ve Known," Tena introduces the reader to a
simple common sense
approach to dealing with the challenges that your horse has to
offer; an insight into
better understanding our equine counterparts. She also discusses the
theory of action
and reaction and how every move you make will affect your horse’s
overall personality
in some way.
Tena
is best known for her project for the North American Riding for the
Handicapped Association (NARHA) with a poem entitled “Iron Horse”.
Promoted by Professionals
Choice, Iron Horse
was seen in many major magazines including Equus, Horse Illustrated,
and Horse and
Rider, with the original piece auctioned at The All American Quarter
Horse Congress
to benefit NARHA. She has also been involved with a project for the
International
Pro Rodeo Association entitled “Cowboy Up”.
Once
she learned about Personal Ponies, she offered us all of her Iron
Horse prints that she
had left. She also called
the publisher and artist and got the prints that they had left for
us. The proceeds from
this fund raiser will go to the National Office to be used where
they are most needed.
The
prints are signed and numbered by the artist. We do have some Artist’s
Proofs also. This is a limited edition print, suitable for framing.
The print
features Tena Bastian’s
palomino gelding, Teddy, and a girl in a wheelchair. Tena wrote the
poem.
Tena
said the artist caught Teddy’s expression perfectly. He was always
drawn to wheelchairs
and just stood there looking. Not nuzzling, or anything, just
looking. The print
is 16” x 24”.
Iron
Horse originally sold for $65 and $125 for the Artist’s Proof.
We are offering them
for $25 and $50 for the Artist’s Proof, plus shipping.
To
order the print, send a check or money order made out to Personal
Ponies, to Vickie Sheathelm. You can
also email Vickie
to inquire about paying for it through PayPal.
